Mom Jeans

So I'm 23 1/2 weeks along now. My wardrobe has dried up like a seasonal watering hole in Africa over the last several weeks, and now there is nothing save a few dying fish flopping around in the mud, holding on for dear life. I have stretched (and I do mean
s t r e t c h e d) my jean supply up till now, using hair elastics and belts to hold my pants on. The other day I pulled a pair of jeans out of the dryer, put them on, and found I could neither zip them up or fasten them with a hair elastic.

No matter, I went to The Home Depot with Brian anyway, my pants completely unzipped and unbuttoned.

It was time to face facts. It was the end of an era. It was time for mom jeans.

Everyone told me to go to the Gap and get the Long and Lean Maternity jeans. So I grabbed my good friend Terah and off we went to Woodburn, about a 60 minute drive and yes, the closest Gap to my house. I walked in with excitement, ready for a life changing pant experience. I asked to be directed to the maternity clothes. I held my breath in anticipation.

And then, and then, oh horror of horrors. They told me something awful. They had done away with their maternity section. I nearly wept, I tell you.

The guy told me to go to Old Navy instead. Well, I had tried that and the Old Navy in my town had eighty sixed their maternity, too. I nearly stamped my foot. But Terah came through. We can go to Salem, she said. There's a big Old Navy there, she said.

And we went. Yes we did. Maternity pants were tried on, yes they were. There was applause when I walked out of the dressing room. Applause and cheers and confetti and cash registers clicking and plastic cards flashing and oh, it was wonderful. Goodbye hair elastic. Goodbye muffin top. Hello comfort. Hello panel.

Sleepless Nights

I cannot sleep. At all. I don't know why. And that's about all I can think of to say about that.

(The author models her new 'mom jeans' by Old Navy in what will be the nursery. Cookie the Dog stands by, waiting for her walk.)

Major insomnia. Almost the entire pregnancy. Sucked. Big time. Sorry, lady. :(

I put off getting maternity clothes as long as I could, and I remember well the relief when I finally got them and actually had something to wear again! I bet you're feeling much the same, and it's a good feeling! You are so cute, I'm loving the new clothes and loving the pregnant belly!

I did not fight the maternity jeans. :) I loved them. SO much more comfortable than trying to make my old ones work.

And then the belly got bigger and was pushing them down again. Hello again, dear Bellaband.

I'm tellin' you. Loved that thing. Till the bitter post-pregnancy flab end.

You look adorable. Can't wait to feel her kick FO REALS.

You have the cutest pregnant belly. I am so jealous. I am also jealous that you found cute maternity clothes. I still haven't found a whole lot. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

I agree w/ all the above - well the part about you being adorable! Don't have much experience w/ the "mom jeans" and "pregnancy insomnia".

Awesom! Terah always seems to be there when you need. It seemed like she played an excellent Fairy God Mother in this senario. You look fabulous!

YES!!! Isn't it wonderful to be able to breath in your pants? I only have two pair, but that'll have to do for now. I am also completely 100% there with you on the no sleep schedule. I am uncomfortable no matter what I do. They say the LEFT side is best for blood circulation. The RIGHT side is okay, but you don't get the best circulation, (something about increased pressure of the main valve in the heart). BACK is BAD for your spine, STOMACH is a NO! Not a lot of option people!! :) I was a stomach sleeper before. boo hoo hoo

yay! glad you finally found some jeans... oregon is AWFUL for maternity clothes. coming from utah, where you can practically buy them at your local grocer, the 'good' and 'cute' stuff here is much more hard to find. and, love the pic of the cute preggo belly, you wear it well :)

1/2 of a Unisom and a vitamen B--something; either a 6 or a 12. I can't remember which one! That little concoction is supposed to be for morning sickness, but I kept taking long after my nausea subsided. I not only slept better, I didn't have as many of those crazy pregnancy dreams.
