Oregon is Neato

I'm a nerd.

I like birds.

I have a feeling that someday, possibly in the near future, I will actually buy binoculars and an ornithology book and head out into the 'field'. I'll even call it 'the field'. When my friends ask me what I'm doing on any given weekend I'll say, "I'll be in the field."

I will sound like I know things. And it might be a teensy bit annoying to those friends who ask. And then they might want to stop being my friends.

Anyway.

Oregon has birds. Big ones.

When I drive up and down the I-5 every day I see great big hawks sitting on fences waiting to pounce. One beautiful Oregon morning I was stuck in gridlock on a bridge over the Willamette River. There was an osprey nest next to the bridge that I liked to look at whenever I walked by. That morning as I sat in traffic I saw one of the birds swoop down to the water, grab a fish and fly back to the nest with it.

It was cool.

Anyway, the other day I was driving to school and saw two big birds sitting in a tree. At first I thought they were hawks, but as I got closer I realized they were something else. Something...better.

Yeah, Oregon. You're not so bad.

I love birds. We own bird books, but no binoculars. The birds in Florida were also amazing!

Orb, I will be responding to your bird post with a post on my own blog.

As for the tag post, after I posted it, I self-censored it.

Oooh Kaylynn, I bet the birds in Florida WERE cool.

And Chris, I don't know why you self censored your post. But I'm sure you had your reasons. I'll look for the new post.

Seeing bald eagles is always so cool!! It makes me feel so patriotic.
I'm jealous of you being able to see lots of cool birds - NY basically only has pigeons. Rats with wings in my opinion. So embrace your "fields" and binoculars.

Hello! Jessica Ivins, you can move IN with me if you want! That would be awesome. I have a feeling that we would eat a lot of ice cream together though. So. there's that.

You and my sister Allison should chat. She has a ton of birdseed in her backyard, and she gets a ton of little birds that she watches. And she gets excited and writes down the new birds she sees in a book that her husband calls "The Geek Journal." She's got so many that she has hawks coming to her yard now to eat the other birds. AND she has a book about what to plant in your yard to attract certain birds.
As for me, I'd love to see a bald eagle. And I'd love to come back to Oregon!

Wow, I don't have any hawks in my backyard. That would be kind of sad to watch one eat the little birds! I have a suet feeder in my yard and I feel so complimented when the birds come and eat from it. I also like to see the different birds that come with different seasons.
